Unanswered: Things to do when changing SQL Server name
My SQL Server instance name, and SQL Server group are different to my machine name, so we are planning to change it.
From what I read, all you have to do is rename the SQL Server, rename the Windows SQL group, drop the SQL Server group than recreate the group with the new machine name, is this all we have to do? what else do I have to do? And what backout plan should I take.
One of the annoying things you will have to do is reset the owning server on any SQL Agent job. There might be an easier way to do it in SQL 2005, but I think in SQL 2005 I resorted to just updating the table in msdb.
