Unanswered: 2003 boot partition got wiped, now oracle not registered

I inherited this server will 9i previously installed. There aren't any backups but all oracle data appears in tack on d drive.
I have installed server 2003 with sp2 and now need to install 9i. I have the 9.2.0.1 cd's. Is it possible not to loose data with installation? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Log onto the Operating System as the user who owns Oracle software directory.
    from a command window do:
    SET ORACLE_HOME=<directory>
    SET ORACLE_SID=YOURSID

ensure $ORACLE_HOME/bin is included within $PATH

    sqlplus
    / as sysdba
    startup
    exit

    >during the install do I create new repository and database?
I would do a software only installation.

    >do i need security credentials for existing repository?
    What credentials in what repository?

    install

I chose existing instead of new repository during installation and did not create new database. Configuration Assistant is now running. I skipped step 1 and now step 2 is up referencing editing configuration parameters which brings me to credentials.

Are you sure you are using the CORRECT CD's?

None of the above have anything to do directly with Oracle RDBMS.
In fact I am not sure why they got started.

After issuing the sqlplus command, I am prompted for an id and password. Could someone please offer informative guess as to what's required here?

Even with my very limited knowledge, I think I'm close. I just don't know enough. This is the listener reply:

I don't know how to affect the instance status!?!
