Unanswered: SQL Server 2005 and SSAS

Is SSAS (SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services) a component / separate install of SQL Server 2005, or is it a separate product all together?

    Thank you

Component - you get the option to install it when installing SQL Server

    SQL Server 2005 and SSAS

If you are already familiar with MS SQL Server, how difficult is SSAS to pick-up / learn (specifically, we want to use... Analysis Service Cubes)? From a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being very complicated), where does it rank in learning curve?

    Thank you

It's a fairly significant curve ball. MDX (query language) is different from T-SQL (but just agonizingly similar enough to be a nuisance). There is a new "lingo" to learn (Dimensions, Cubes, Calculated Members, Aggregates, Hierarchies).

    It's a heckuva tool though.
