    Unanswered: Cannot start/connect on localhost

I have just installed SQL 2000 Developer on a new computer under XP and get the message in Enterprise Manager:-
Connection failed, check SQL Server Registration Properties.
Please tell me how I fix this.

I tried to install MSSQL 2000 on Win XP, it refused to install itself. It said XP was not a valid platform. Are you sure about all you wrote?
    With kind regards . . . . . SQL Server 2000/2005/2012

    Cannot start/connect on localhost

Wim, as far as am concerned it installed fine. I just cannot get it to start.
It certainly did not say anything about "It said XP was not a valid platform."?
