change the onconfig parameter "TAPEDEV c:\tape_backup.dat", create the file c:\tape_backup.dat, then issue the command "ontape -s -L 0".

    1)Shutdown the database
    2) ontape -r
    3) It will ask whether you want to restore from the destination-yes
    4) It will ask whether you want to restore from level1-no
    5) restore from log- if you have log backup then yes otherwise no
    6) Shutdown and restart

    Cool

Remember to put the server back into multi user mode with 'onmode -m' after the restore has finished.

Question how can I take back up of a single database ?

how can I take single database as backup so that I can restore only that particular database in future ? as you mentioned ontape -s -L 0 it takes backup of the whole instance.
