Business Analyst - Backend Internet Infrastructure
This is not your typical Business Analyst role in that the emphasis is with on-line content management / back-end infrastructure, scalability issues, web technologies, web infrastructure, etc. from a systems level. So while this is not a web developer position, it does call for knowledge / experience with web technologies as further explained below.
While there is indeed a fair amount of interaction, it is with various IT technical groups (as opposed to the usual business users): UNIX, Database, Applications Development, Networking, and external hardware and software vendors. This role will be responsible for architecting and implementing back-end infrastructure. Also note we are in search of a junior to intermediate-level professional, someone with at least 3 years experience working similar role(s). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
This position is situated within the Web Technology Group, and is responsible for gathering and defining system and reporting requirements and objectives based on product definition and expected performance. Working with developers and architects to develop technical specifications with emphasis on creating documents in alignment with current methods of estimating project size and scope, draft and maintain detailed project plans and keep track of overall project health.
Successful candidates for this position must have prior experience in technical requirements gathering; load test case definition, failover testing definition and task mapping. This person must also have prior experience writing system requirements, workflow documentation, architecture diagrams, and system test plans. This means that they have had broad-based and in-depth experience with these skills and their place in infrastructure build-outs and system development life cycle.
The primary areas of focus for the Web Technology group encompass supporting the infrastructure for various Web properties (.com, Intranet, and B2B sites) and new business development centered on new and emerging technology platforms (mobile and wireless, IP-delivered video, etc.). As such, successful candidates will be expected to have prior experience in project management.
Must also have experience with resource allocation and budget analysis.
Successful candidates must be flexible enough to grasp new platforms and paradigms very quickly, and should be prepared to think out of the box when necessary.
Gather project requirements and defining project scope for back-end infrastructure.
Create project documentation such as requirements, technical specifications, diagrams, workflows, etc.
Create and maintain project plans including Gant charts.
Facilitate project initiation and monitor project progress through follow-ups, status review, and status communication
Generate and analyze weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
Attend resource planning meetings
Create and file incident reports, change management report, etc.
Participate in budget estimations and end of year budget alignment, carry over, etc.
3+ years of experience managing technical projects for Internet Infrastructure specific business environment.
2+ years experience with Unix/Linux and Apache and Application Server technology like Weblogic/Websphere, etc.
Understanding of networking, application servers, web servers, on-line content management and DNS required.
Able to define project scope, develop detailed baseline project plans and technical specifications, facilitate the collection of technical, operational or business requirements, set milestones, as well as track and manage projects to successful completion
Must be able to clearly and regularly communicate status, issues and risks to project stakeholders
Must be able to function effectively in a quick paced environment with frequently changing business needs
Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation, problem resolution and customer service
Outstanding analytic and problem-solving skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including the ability to establish goals and set clear expectations, prioritize activities and follow through to completion
Must be highly organized and able to multi-task
Experience with software development life cycles, infrastructure rollouts, and application release management
Experience with delivering successful infrastructure projects in hosted environments a plus
Expert with Microsoft Word, Project, Excel, Visio & PowerPoint
Experience with Business Objects Reporting & Clarity Portfolio Management tools a plus
Bachelors Degree or better
