    Looking for suggestions (newb)

    Hello,
I'm looking for suggestions about what database program I should use. Any help is appreciated.

I'm looking to build a very simple LIMS (Lab Information Management System) for the lab I work in. All it really needs is the ability to generate a job number based on the date and an incremented counter of the number of jobs so far, a few different fields with data of samples associated with the job, and a status indicator. That's about it.

I believe it will be simple enough for me to do despite my lack of previous experience with db. The problem is figuring out the right program to start with. The price needs to be, uh, 0. It also must have a decent GUI that I can use to build the db in the first place and then later to access the db on a daily basis.

(It'll be running in a windows environment if that makes any difference to the suggestions)

    Thank you!

Nevermind, I had forgotten that Open Office has a db program included. It appears to be just fine for what I need.
