    Unanswered: Need basic indexing advice

    Should I index the master table ID autonumber field in the detail table?

    Are you asking if you should index the ForeignKey field in the Detail table? Indexing helps on searching, so if you are doing a .FindFirst then sure. Generally it is not necessary and only slows things down when updating because of maintaining the index.

    I usually index any fields I'm doing searches on. I've found you can index many fields in a table but having too many can affect performance. I'm not sure but I think there's an equation for indexing somewhere.
