Unanswered: how to update existing record

as you can prob tell by the title im new to all this.... anyway

i need to make a stock control database where once created in the form i will have a button that says update stock when clicked a box would pop up saying "part number" when you enter the part number and click ok it would then come up "quantity" and you would enter the quantity but instead of creating new records it would update a record if there was already one with that part number. is this possible? also is it possible to enter into the quantity box a negative number so that this would "take away" parts from our stock? any help would really be appreciated
    thanks in advance

Yes it's possible to make a "Stock Level Adjustment" command, but it should really be a command button on the stock item form imo. Then you don't have to prompt for a part number. You need only prompt the user for the adjustment and add it to your existing StockLevel field.
