Unanswered: Can port AIX DB2 database to Red Hat DB2?

    Hi All

Do you know how to port an AIX DB2 database to an install of DB2 on Red Hat Enterprise 4?

    Thank you

Use db2look to reproduce the database structure, then use db2move to transfer the data.

"It does not work" is not a valid problem statement.

    Thanks, Nick.

Quick question (I'm a newbie). Do you run the db2look on the source database server or the destination server? Same question for the Db2move.

    Thanks again

    Jazz,

Get the manual. Those are some basic questions that you can find answers by your self faster.

IBM - DB2 Version 9.5 for Linux, UNIX and Windows English manuals

Both of those are done on the source. db2move can be used on the target, but only after having it done on the source.

db2look is executed on the source and will produce the whole schema in DDL format which can by executed on the target. I advice you to cut this in 2 halves. The upper part contains the "create table" and "create index" statements. The lower halve contian all the "foreign key constraints". So:
    - run the upper part (i.e.import the schema)
    - load all the data (do not matter in which sequence)
    - run the lower part: this process will also check your data transfer.

Ready! Your data is transferred and checked.

This way of work will give you the oppertunity to check if you are still happy with your tablespace/bufferpool configuration(why not automatic storage for all you tables) This will be an unique oppertunity to make some changes by editing the "upper half" of your schema file.

As an alternative to db2move, you can use federation and create nicknames on the new db to point to the tables in the source db. Then use Load with cursor.
