Question Unanswered: Can't connect to SQL server using ODBC

    Hello,

I added a domain user to an sql server and am able to connect to the server as that user using the management studio interface. However, when I try to create an ODBC connection as that user I get an error saying connection failed at the point where it tries to connect to the database to get additional configuration settings.

I am baffled. Any help on this will be very much appreciated.

    Hi Des,
Can you post some more details - the error message would be helpful

From what you've said above it sounds like you've created a logon to the server but haven't given the user permissions to the database itself. Open up the users logon and under the User Mapping tab make sure they have at least datareader access to the database.

    Hi Wilvis,

I am away from the computer on which I am attempted the connection presently, so I can't send you the exact text of the error message now. Will do so later.

But the fact is that I did give the user access to the database (as dbowner in fact).
