Unanswered: Adding additional processor to SQL Server 2005

    Hi All,

We are about to add an additional processor to one of our SQL Server 2005, just wondering if there are any downside to doing this and if this a low risk task to do, i.e. we won't encounter any problem after doing this?

Hardware installation risks aside there are only a few things I can think of...

Is your machine currently single processor? You may have issues with Windows going from uniprocessor to multiprocessor HAL

You may want to check this site: Microsoft SQL Server 2005: Compare Features
The first line of the table has CPU limitations for each edition of SQL Server 2005.

You may also have to adjust the number of processors in SQL Server after the upgrade.

    Good Luck!
