    Unanswered: Question about INDICATOR :NULL1

    Hello,

Could anyone kindly tell me what "indicator :null" in the following statement does/means?

Thank you so much in advance,
    Kevin

    EXEC SQL
    FETCH CUR_CREDIT
    INTO :TB945.ENTITYID,
    :TB945.LEGCRAMT,
    :TB945.GIFTID INDICATOR :NULL1,
    :TB945.PLEDGEID INDICATOR :NULL2,
    :TB945.LSTUPDAT
    end-exec.

NULL1 and NULL2 are variables defined in the Working Storage section of the COBOL program. After the Fetch you can examine the variables to determine whether the data is null (if < 0), and if it is null then you should ignore the actual contents of TB945.GIFTID and TB945.PLEDGEID respectively.
