    Question Unanswered: LinkedServer Oracle

    Hi everybody!

    Is there something I should do before using a linkedserver to Oracle,
    the oracle client its already installed?

    I have the same problem like If it weren't installed.

    OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' reported an error.
    [OLE/DB provider returned message: Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.

    Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.]
    OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ].

    Are you able to use any of the Oracle tools (e.g. TNSPING) to test the connectivity from the SQL Server box to the Oracle box?

    I´m in the server where it is the sql database

    I try the tnsping to the Oracle db
    the answer was this:
    Used HOSTNAME adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION=(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=*)(SERVICE_NAME=sr vname01))(AD
    DRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=srvname01)(PORT=1521)))
    OK (130 msec)

    then i did the tnsping to to sqlserverdb
    Used HOSTNAME adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION=(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=*)(SERVICE_NAME=se rver02)
    )(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=server02)(PORT=1521) ))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener

    I would check the parameters for the second Oracle instance. It may not be running on the default port, or the name of the server may not be resolving properly.

    I have another server pointing to the same Oracle Database server
    and I copy the link

    Linkeserver working:
    SrvStatus =1184
    Srvstatus = orasrv
    ServerProduct= Oracle 7.3
    ProviderName = MSDAORA
    Datasource = PRDSRV

    Linkeserver not working:
    SrvStatus =1184
    Srvstatus = orasrv
    ServerProduct= Oracle 7.3
    ProviderName = MSDAORA
    Datasource = PRDSRV

    But I found that in the "working ok" server i have installed the Ora Home 92
    and in the "Not working" server I have the Ora Home Client,
    Could be this?
