Unhappy Unanswered: Can anyone help please? When tryin to open a FrontEnd DB it says Unrecognized Databas

I restored a Front End from my backup which was deleted from my PC and when I try to open the Databse it gives me this error message "Unrecognized Database format C:\ and then file name location etc.

Can anyone help please on how to fix this as I desperately need to access my database. For your information, the bankend does work but it only has the tables.

    Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

Where did you restore from (tape, NAS etc)?
Under what circumstances were your backups taken (via the Access GUI, using Veritas etc., was the file in use at the time)?
Why did you restore in the first place?
Do you have any further backups?
Is this an MDE or MDB?

    Hi Pootle,
Thank you so much for replying.
Where did you restore from (tape, NAS etc)?
I restored it from an external backup drive. The backup was taken when the all the programs were off and I manually run the backup using XPPro backup sotware.

why did you restore in the first place?
Today, one of my colleagues was entering data on a form on the Database when she got an error messaging saying the MS Access encountered and had to restart. So I closed the database and realised that in the same folder a new file called "1db.mdb" was created, as usual I deleted that file and tried to open the databse through the shortcut on the desktop but somehow the whole Front End has desapeared (deleted). I have tried many Data Recovery software but no joy, non found it.
I had a very old backup which I am not sure whether this restored file has all the new forms, report etc but after I restored this file, when I try to open the file it says, Unrecognized database format. I tried to Run Compact and Repair and Tried to Convered the DB back to 2000 or 1997 but it does not allow me and gives the same message.

For your information, the Front End was saved on one computer which serves as a server and other computers accessed the DB through a MapDrive.
The database restored and the Front End are/were both MDB.

I would be extremely grateful for any help and advice on how to fix this?
