    Unanswered: ORA-27300 and TNS 12518 issues

    Hello Support Member,

    I got the following Oracle error in my alert log :
    ===========
    Thu Jul 30 15:00:37 2009
    Errors in file c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\smartbk\bdump\smart bk_psp0_2564.trc:
    ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:spcdr:9261:4200 failed with status: 997
    ORA-27301: OS failure message: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.
    ORA-27302: failure occurred at: skgpspawn
    ==========
    On finding out how to resolve this issue I was directed to contact Oracle Support as per the following line:

    Cause: Operating system call error.
    Action: Contact Oracle Customer Support.

    Also, my application users are having the following error :

    ===========
    TNS-12518 TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
    ===========
    I have checked all my Listener and TNS configurations and could not find any problem

    Users have been working more than 6months now with no such problem

    I would be very grateful if any one could help me out as soon as possible

    Further, what is the severity of this problem

    Platform : Win 2003 R2
    Oracle Version :10g Release 2

    Please find attached the Alert.log (ie alert_smartbk.log) and the trace file (smartbk_psp0_2564.trc) generated after the error for your verification

    Much thanks in advance

    What clues exist in trace file named in line #1

    Line #2 indicates an OS problem.
    What clues exist in OS log files?

    Hi,

    Regarding the TNS-12518 Oracle error, what is your PROCESSES set to AND are you running DEDICATED or SHARED?

    Kind regards,
    B

    Hi

    Please, find responses to the clarifications below:

    1. With Regard to TNS-12518 TNS:listener could not hand off client connection

    The PROCESESS = 300
    and sever is DEDICATED

    2. with regard to ORA-27300

    OS System log: The OracleDb10g_home1TNSListener service terminated unexpectedly

    OS Application log : Unable to begin another thread

    Hi Support mates,

    I am still counting on your invaluable supports.

    Please has anyone any solution to this issue,

    The error keeps occuring intermittently on the server and is disconnecting and preventing new connections to the database.

    Some suggested it is a bug in oracle 10g R2 and that a patch needed to be applied.

    But my problem is since our product is custom made and not oracle product I cannot apply their patch

    Am waiting on you

    Thanks

    Above directly implicates this failure is OS induced.
    Oracle requests OS perform a service & OS tells Oracle it can not do as requested.

    I would expect some sort of OS failure to have been logged.

    Good Luck with your mystery.

    >The OS Application log is : Unable to begin another thread
    fix this & Oracle will stop throwing errors.
    Oracle requests new thread & OS reports it can not comply.
    Listener's only option is to report failure & die.

    Just curious, about how many new connections were started within the last minute before error & termination?

    listener.log contains 1 record for each & every connection request.

    On the surface it appears Windoze was having serious & ongoing problems.
    Escalate to Microsoft support.
