I've given up on the OLTP database. I was hoping that we could use an ODS or a warehouse to model the data so that it can at least somewhat resemble the our logical enterprise business model.

Unfortunately, my preference to have a reasonably relational model was ignored.

The new so-called ODS is instead a set of data mart tables created specific to one set of reporting requirements.

I blame Kimball, as these people are clearly misguided by his teachings.

Data marts are fine, but they missed the data warehouse and the immense advantages that it can offer our particular enterprise.

Calling data marts a data warehouse is ridiculous, but it seems to be an argument that I have lost.

For the sake of discussion, would it be reasonable to ask a developer to code the DELETE like this?
    Code:
    DELETE
      FROM members
     WHERE member_id = 226483
My thinking is that the member_id is probably guaranteed to never change, and it is also probably the PK.

Serious question on perspective on this one. Developers often tend to go after the descriptive name rather than the _ID or _KEY or whatever.
