    Hi,

    RMAN catalog is essentially a schema in an existing database. If you've created the database for example DEMO for use by your RMAN catalog.

    Then you create an RMAN user and then run RMAN create catalog. Example below:

    - Create a RMAN tablespace

    create tablespace RMAN datafile '/oradata01/rman_01.dbf' size 200M;

    - Create the Recovery Catalog Owner

    sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

    create user rman IDENTIFIED BY rman
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE rman
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp
    QUOTA UNLIMITED ON rman;

    GRANT CONNECT, RECOVERY_CATALOG_OWNER TO rman;

    - Create the recovery catalog

    rman rman/rman

    RMAN> create catalog;

    recovery catalog created

    RMAN> exit

    HTH ...

    Hi,
    The procedure you mention is create the rman tablespace in existing instance .
    If I want to have recovery caltalog database rman in instance "rman" ,and I target to backup the database in instance "DEMO" .what is the new procedure ??
    Do I need to create the new instance "rman" first ???
    How can I do that , could you describe in more detailed by command ???

    I think it best if you sit down for a few minutes and read the manual.
    90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.
