Red face Unanswered: number of open partitions - 12-53<>15.03 Please help me

Hello. I am trying to upgrade a linux ASE 12.5.3 to ASE 15.03

I am getting no problems with the preupgrade.

The upgrade though is failling due to the following related matter.

    Code:
2> sp_countmetadata "number of open partitions"
    3> go
    Configuration option doesn't exist.
    (return status = 1)
    Code:

    '/home/sybase/ASE-12_5/sybase.cfg'. This parameter is
ignored. Edit the configuration file to remove or correct
    this parameter.

So essentially any attempt to add in the configuration parameter with the files is not recognized as being valid.
The upgrading version 15 checks for it though but sybase 12 doesn't even know about it.
    Seems impossible to fix.

    I am just trying to do a preupgrade/upgrade from a 12.5 source to a fresh 15 install.

This will not happen unless the upgrade can get a value for number of open partitions.
I can't set this apparent and as such it's not able to get it...and so it goes.

Please any help is a much much help,

    Thanks

    Jim

I am not sure if you understand the problem clearly.
1 15.0.x has a config parm "number of open partitions"; 12.5.x has no such parm.
2 Somewhere in the upgrade script, the stupid thing tries to get the value of "number of open partitions" from the 12.5.x server, and it fails.
3 Are you sure you are identifying the source server as "12.5.x" ?
4 Yes, I know the script is supplied by Sybase. Compared with 12.5.x, 15.0.x is very buggy. Each specific sub release is quite different, since they are fixing thousands of bugs, and introducing new bugs.
5 Do not use 15.0.3 GA, in fact do not use any 15.x GA. The current 15.0.3 ESD is #2. Use at least ESD #1.
5 If you cannot get that (ie. establish a valid starting point), and you wish to continue with what you have, edit the script and comment out the reference to:
    sp_countmetadata "number of open partitions"
