Unanswered: perform action when date field = current date

I have a table that contains a field with several dates, when one of those dates comes about i would like the database to perform a simple operation (changing a value in a different table).

I was just wondering what the best method of doing this would be, i think it might be possible to do with rules, but am pretty bad with them so any insight would be much appreciated thx :

What exactly do you mean with "comes about"? Do you mean when a row is inserted or the column is updated?

In that case you'll need a trigger that compares the new values to the current_date and then does whatever is necessary.
