    Unanswered: Multiple Opportunities with SQL Server in DC Metro

    Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to join our consulting team. Qualified candidates will work on Homeland Security projects with senior developers that specialize in the development of applications that utilize the entire Microsoft application stack.
    Location is Alexandria, VA


    • Manage large high-availability SQL Server 2005 environment.
    • Proactively monitor database performance and stability.
    • Provide and maintain Backup / Recovery models.
    • Troubleshooting application issues with additional technical personnel.
    • Collaborate with development team on technical solutions.
    • Provide high-quality consultation to business partners.
    • Demonstrate keen aptitude in acquiring business domain expertise.
    • Follow established enterprise development and design standards, guidelines and processes.
    • Ensure that all best practices and enterprise standards are followed.
    • Ensure deadlines are met, yet be forthright on progress and flexible.
    • Produce high-quality technical documentation.
    • Interact with team members at a highly professional and technical level.
    Job Qualifications
    Skill Requirements

    • 5+ years of work experience as a Database Administrator supporting Microsoft SQL Server versions 2005 and later.
    • 5+ years of working with large-scale database residing in a highly-available environment.
    • 5+ years of maintaining multiple environments supporting different business goals (Production, Development, Testing, etc).
    • 5+ years of SQL Server BI tools (SSIS / SSRS / SSAS).
    • Experience Data Modeling, Troubleshooting and Performance Tuning.
    • Experience of incorporating Security and Encryption features included in SQL Server.
    • Experience performing SQL Server Installations and Upgrades from previous versions.
    • Basic understanding of ASP.NET Web Development (2.0 and later).
    • Microsoft MCDBA (or similar certification) will be a plus.

    Candidates should possess and be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the following:

    • Microsoft SQL Server Administration (2005 and Later)
    • SQL Server BI Suite (2005 and later) and related ETL tools (SQL Server 2000)

    Working knowledge and proficiency of the following is also preferred:

    • Microsoft SQL Server development (2005 and later)
    • Visual Source Safe or equivalent source control software
    • SCRUM and Agile methodologies
    • Microsoft Project Server

    Professional Requirements

    • Professional consulting experience and background required.
    • Proven strong innovative and analytical ability with extensive implementation experience.
    • Must be a “team player” and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • “Self-Starter” that has the ability to work under general direction.
    • Ability to balance work across multiple projects concurrently.
    • BA/BS in Computer Science, MIS, or other IT related field preferred.
    • United States Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Customs and Border Protection suitability.

    Junior Database Administrator (DBA) with experience in SQL Server to support database operations and enhancements.

    The responsibilities will include assisting the Senior Database Administrator with database design for new application development, database upgrades for existing applications and administration such as backup and recovery, performance tuning, log monitoring, etc. The Jr DBA will also work with software developers to improve database designs and generate new databases to support system enhancements/upgrades.

    Areas of Responsibility:
    • Work with the client to define their requirements and deliver results.
    • Work with the team to meet corporate, team and personal objectives as defined by management.
    • Work with the team members:
    1. To develop and manage Microsoft SQL Server database systems while insuring high levels of data integrity and availability.
    2. Writing stored procedures and functions.
    3. Creating Upgrade scripts for versioning of databases.
    4. Creating Imports and Exports using Jobs, SIS and DTS Packages.
    • Work with the Sr DBA to:
    1. Monitor performance and identify causes of deadlocks and long wait times.
    2. Setup and monitor the automation of Backups.
    3. Test Restores.
    4. Schedule and monitoring DTS packages and Jobs for importing and exporting data.

    Database Developers
    Level: Mid level (6+ years experience)
    Degree: BS or equivalent work experience
    Available: October 2009
    Work Location: Crystal City, VA
    Security: Interim Secret Clearance or higher.
    Will upgrade to a TS.

    Client is looking a Database Developer with 2+ years of experience in SQL Server with version 2005/2008 experience including C#. This individual will have heavy SQL development skills including stored procedures, queries, tables, and views. The ideal candidate will have experience with data warehousing.

    Areas of Responsibility:
    • Developing reports using Crystal Reports and Microsoft SSRS; modifying existing reports
    • Optimizing database code
    • Create new SSIS packages
    • Maintain existing DTS packages
    • Convert DTS packages to SSIS
    • Run ad hoc database queries
    • Convert Access Databases to SQL Server
    • Miscellaneous tasks requiring software/database development skills

    Feedback on SQL Opportunities in DC

    Here is an update to the SQL Positions:

    The Jr. DBA and the Mid level Develoepr positions are not available any longer.

    The SR. DBA role can go as high as $120K for the right person who must be eligible for a Clearance.

    I also have a Sr. SharePoint and IA/SW development role available as well.
