Unanswered: Error 202 on Mac OS X 10.5.8

I've had MySQL working for a long time on my computer, but today, for some reason, I can't connect.

    I keep getting:
"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"

I've looked online for answers, but have not been successful. I would just as soon do a clean install (I have dumps of the databases), but that doesn't seem too easy to accomplish either.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Michael

check the server is running, now idea on how you do this on a Mac, there must be a command they stole from *nix (sorry invented). assuming the server is running then check the port isn't being blocked by a firewall

do you know what may have changed form when it was last working.?
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton

Thanks for your reply. I've somehow managed to reinstall it. I'm thinking that MySQL Administrator chocked (and then screwed up something) when I was trying to restore from a dump (99 mb). Is that too big a file?

I seem to be having the same problems now recreating the file.
