    Unhappy Unanswered: Performance of Linked Server is Unstable

    We have a procedure to access a table via linked server. The data of that table is huge. so we use the script to let the return data as samll as possible.

    Code:
    EXEC
    (N'
    SELECT
          *
    FROM his.dbo.tableA WITH(NOLOCK)
    WHERE (CustomerNumber = ?)
    	AND (CompanyCode = ?)
    ',
    @CustomerNumber, @CompanyCode
    ) AT ServerA
    After three days monitor, we find the performance was unstatble, sometimes it runs quickly and sometimes it versy slow. I don't know why.

    Any idea about this?

    Is the query also unstable if you run it directly on ServerA? If it is, then the problem is not the linked server. If it runs fine on ServerA, then it's probably network or client related.

    I believe a non admin account won't get statistics across a server link.

    Try OpenQuery function vs 4 part qualifier.
