    Unanswered: Recovery mode

Is there a way to bring the instance from Quiescent to Fast recovery other than doing an ontape -p so I can change instance to secondary

yes but probably not work for your object... to change a instance from standard to secondary you must restore from an archive (hdr) or copy theirs chunks manually (onmode -c block; copy; ontape -p -e ; onmode -c unblock) ...

Exists an undocumented option : "oninit -PHY" , will keep your instance in physical recovery, but probably will not sync with the primary when you try add it to HDR.
This occur because some pages already have written (logical recovery) on the first time you bring the server to quiescent and this way go to out-sync with primary....

I already try to do this once over version 10 and not worked, maybe works with version 11.5 ... try.. it's free
    if works, please, post here...
