Unanswered: Compact on close vs compact and repair

Can someone please tell me if I understand the differencia between these 2 actions: Compact on close - compacts the database. Compact and repair: creates a new database and gets rid of the old one.

What do you consider to be the safest way to code a databaste for Compact and repair on close or is this not necessary?

    Thank You in advance.

"Compact on close" is possibly one of the worst ideas Microsoft has come up with since Access first cane out! Paradoxically, C & Rs are a common cause of corruption, and should only be done after making a secure backup copy, which precludes using Compact on Close.

Most experienced developers, I think, will tell you that once a database is up and running, routine C & Rs are seldom necessary.
    Hope this helps!

The problem with making anything that fools are so darn ingenious!
