    Unanswered: Oracle Memory always 99%

    Hi All,

We installed oracle 10g in HP server with 40 GB of memory. But always the memory utilization shown as 100% or 99%. To avoid this we added 20Gb more memory but still memory utilization is high. Could you pls advise how to solve this issue?

You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.

Currently we are using glance to identify memory usage. It currently shows the usage as 99%.

    CPU Util SUU | 6% 4% 28%
    Disk Util FF | 4% 5% 12%
    Mem Util S SU UB B | 99% 99% 99%
    Swap Util U UR R | 67% 67% 67%

Active VM: 19.6gb Buf Cache: 2.4gb Free Mem: 312mb FileCache: na

I want to calculate the overall memory usage used by the system. ( in all aspects)

    >when you say memory utilization .. what do u mean by it . state clearly
    memory of RAM ?
    memory of hd
    memory of tablespace
    process memory ?

Glance output provides which of the above memory usage?

If the system uses 100% of the CPU to do 1tps and it uses 100% of the CPU to do 10tps and it uses
100% of the CPU to do little to no database work -- you have a problem.

which one is your case ??

    Fired 'glance' command..

ah. I presumed this stats were produced by OS . not from database .
let me clear it , i have no experience/little of unix .
even if i had i would prefere listening to my database instead of debating with the os .

Since i have to assume your 10g database is an OLTP database
20 users showing is connected to database / os (as netwrok users) - clients

just as your dba to collect
    1.statspack report.
    2.snapshot
    3.sga/pga utilization report.

tell him thease 3 points and he will understand .

worse case , you donot have a dba . ?

no ... you can run this

    select name||'='||value data from v$parameter where isdefault = 'FALSE';

run it as sysdba in jdeveloper or sqlplus
