    Exclamation Unanswered: Trying to search for a word in a field

    SELECT * FROM posts where match(entry) against('bling');

    Gives me the error
    #1191 - Can't find FULLTEXT index matching the column list

    Is there a way to search without changing the column to "FULLTEXT"? Also what are the cons to changing it to fulltext, will it be slower for regular queries?

    yes, all you have to do is specify IN BOOLEAN MODE

    not at all, if your search doesn't use MATCH then the fulltext index is ignored
