Question Unanswered: I need to open MKD files

    Hi,

How can I open MKD files to read the data. I have to do data conversion from a system that have the info in MKD files (I believe that's btrieve) to Oracle. I have just the files not the application.
    thank you.

Short answer is that you need a Pervasive/Btrieve engine to open MKD files.
Longer answer is that you'll need the engine but you may also need DDFs unless you are willing to write an application to read the files using the Btrieve API. If you have DDFs (or create them), you can use ODBC and any number of tools to export the data. If you don't have DDFs, you'll need to create them or create an application using Btrieve calls to read the data. EIther way, you'll need to know the record structure.

No. There is no way to get to the files without using an engine.

Depends on the version you are installing. All versions since Btrieve 6.15 have an installer that you run. There are two versions: Workgroup and Server. A Workgroup would probably work for you situation since this will probably be a one time conversion.

in ODBC it's asking a user and a password when I try to test the connection to the database. I don't have a user. any idea?

Sounds like the database may have an owner name or a database security. You'd need to provide it.
