Unanswered: Adding a cloumn in a Large table

    Hi,

    I have a quick query.
If we add a cloumn in a big table which has CLOB column too when we add a char column in that then do we have to run reorg/runstat?

Whether it can have some performance issue or not?

    Thanks

You do not HAVE to do a reorg, but one might be advisable.

Yes, you can have a BIG performance issue. You have to check your rec size and see what it will be when you add the column and then decide what you have to do.

With regard to performance issues, if you want to populate the new column with data on existing rows, you should definitely do a reorg. You can do this online (inplace) if you can't do an offline reorg, and you can start, pause, and stop the online reorg if you cannot do it all at once.
