    Unanswered: estimate the size of database

    Hi,

    i need to set up a database. so i need to decide on the hardware requirements and space etc. and to do so i have to first estimate the size of the data? how can i do it ? is there any specific method to be followed ?

    create a 4 column spreadsheet
    Code:
    table_name       avg_row_width       avg_num_rows   table_size
    table_size = avg_row_width * avg_num_rows

    Code:
    index_name       avg_index_width       avg_num_rows   index_size
    index_size = avg_index_width * avg_num_rows

    SUM of all size values will get you to an approximation to DB size

    i queried dba_tables. but the column avg_row_len shows zero. my table
    does not have any data. only the structure is defined. since i am setting up the new database..i dont have any data as of now. should i populate some dummy data ? but i at this point of time i sreally dont now what data to populate.
