Question Unanswered: DB2 Instances - Planning

    Hi

What is the best approach for deploying DB2 instance(s) for enterprise production environment.

    Options :

One database per instance (easy to do upgrade and failovers, but more maintenance work on per instance basis)

OR Is it ok to have muliple databases on an instance - this will reduce the number instance that I have to upgrade or maintain. But will affect more users if I have to bring down the instance for any maintenance purposes.

Some of my databases are critical and some are not

Some are metadata repository for the products like Informatica.

    Thanks for you help!

I think you should only have one instance per server. That way you maximize the server resources for the instance. Using multiple instances on the same server can cause serious issues, especially regarding how to allocate the server resources.
