    Unanswered: Automatic Client Reroute question

    Hi,

    ENV: Db2 9.5, RedHat 5.3

I am wondering if setting up automatic client reroute (ACR) gives any advantage without an HA software for automatic failover in DB2 HADR setup?

    Thanks

Automatic Client Reroute will keep trying to connect to the primary and alternate server in a ping-pong fashion (if the primary server is not available). That could be of some use in a non-HADR system, but it depends on what type of configuration you have.

    Thanks Marcus,

I do have HADR setup but no HA software.

What happens in a situation if primary is not reachable at all. Does the ACR works in this situation? From does the client gets the information that it has to establish the connection to the standby since the alternate server information is stored the database directory of the primary?

when the client connects to primary server, it receives the alternate information to be used in case..
if java type 4, additional setting is required to the connection string to get the same

The alternate server information is captured by the client when the application first connects to the database. but ACR does not issue a HADR takeover command to switch roles on the DB2 servers. It only affects to the client.
