    Hey everyone,
    A question from a newbie.
What's the best way to learn MySQL? I am planning to be a database administrator and I am wondering what do I need to know in order to learn MySQL? I have a basic knowledge in SQL language and in Oracle administration.
I have been searching the web for tutorials in MySQL and I keep getting into the development and programming path, I mean everything is mentioning PHP.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

the story goes that a policeman was approached by a pedestrian in new york city and asked "what's the best way to get to carnegie hall?"

the policeman answered, "practice, practice, practice"

install the software, build a database

then back it up, restore it, and play with it some more

run EXPLAINs on your queries and make sure you know how to optimize them

the best way to learn something is to get your hands dirty
