    Unanswered: Why does the listener not auto start

    Hi,

    new to a site here and noticed that the listener does not start after the databases are rebooted. I have to manually go in and enter

    export PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/sfw/bin:/opt/sfw/bin:/usr/local/bin:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1/bin

    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1

    and then

    lsnrctl start listener

    I believe there to be an issue in the .profile for the oracle user, but this is all it contains

    ================================================== ========

    more .profile
    # This is the default standard profile provided to a user.
    # They are expected to edit it to meet their own needs.

    MAIL=/usr/mail/${LOGNAME:?}
    export EDITOR=vi
    export PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/sfw/bin:/opt/sfw/bin:/usr/local/bin:/
    u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1/bin
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1
    stty erase
    set -o vi
    EDITOR=vi; export EDITOR
    PS1="oracle@`uname -n`$ "; export PS1

    I would like to modify the .profile so that the listener automatically starts
    after a Database reboot, but not sure what I need to include in the .profile or remove.

    Many thanks for your help

    No you don't.

    Ideally .profile is invoked every time this user logs into the system.
    The listener does not need to be started every time this user logs into the system.

    Listener still not srating after reboot

    Still the listener does not restart automatically after a database shutdown and reboot.

    If the listener is not dependent on the oracle user and its credentials, why does it not automatically restart after a reboot?

    The listener will not start successfully unti I issue the following commands:-

    export PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/sfw/bin:/opt/sfw/bin:/usr/local/bin:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1/bin
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1

    Many thanks

    Read the man page for init on your platform - it will tell you how processes are started at boot time.
