Exclamation Unanswered: How to connect SQL2000 to Oracle 11g

Is there a way to connect SQL2000 to Oracle 11g?
I currently can connect to Oracle 8,9 and 10g, but not to 11g.

I installed the 11g client software on a 32 and 64-bit machine, but could not make a connection to Oracle 11g.

    BTW:
I also managed it to install SQL2000 on a 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 machine (and updated it to the latest update select @@version ->
    Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2055 (Intel X86) Dec 16 2008 19:46:53 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 6.1 (Build 7600: )

Major reason is, that I have to upgrade my ERP database to Oracle 11g while my datawarehouse with over 500 DTS
must stay on SQL2000 and I want to move all OS to Windows 2008R2

If the Oracle client on the machine that is running SQL Server is functioning properly, this ought to be a non-issue. I'd start with How to set up and troubleshoot a linked server to an Oracle database in SQL Server

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.

This works for Oracle 8, 9 and 10, not for 11.
