    Unanswered: Tablespace creation (sms)

    Hi All,
I'm not a DB person, but I got a task of configuring DB2 with PORTAL.

Just before creating the databases, steps defined at Help - say that I have to run db2 "CREATE REGULAR TABLESPACE SMS PAGESIZE 4 K MANAGED BY SYSTEM USING ('sms') BUFFERPOOL SMSPOOL" before creating the databases.

But when I run this command on my 64-bit Linux machine, it says:
DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a
valid Command Line Processor command. During SQL processing it returned:
SQL1024N A database connection does not exist. SQLSTATE=08003

What exactly does this command do? Do I need to issue this command before creating the databases to be used with Websphere Portal? Please advise..

    Thank you all..

You cannot issue a SQL statement until you connect to a database.

    1. Create the database
    2. Create bufferpool SMSPOOL
    3. create tablespace
USING ('sms') -> 'sms' has to be the path toa directory
