    Unanswered: Types tables?

I am in the process of re-writing our in-house app.

The current structure has about 40 tables that end in "Types", such as RopeTypes, OrderTypes, ShippingTypes, CustomerTypes, etc.

My question is, do I keep the structure how is has been with all these tables, or should I create a "Types" table that contains some kind of a key that designates that this record is one of X types? What would I call such a table?

This is a heinously bad idea, and it is called a One True Lookup Table. Please stay with your present design of distinct lookup tables for types!

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.

"There is no such thing as a Lookup Table." --blindman
If it's not practically useful, then it's practically useless.
