    Unanswered: ora-000257 archiver error?

    Hi

i got this error on my clients. I googled it and i read that means there was not enough disk space or i have to increase the redo log file size destination, is that right?

But i have more then 50GB free space on the device. I ran this database in standby mode and i think i can use RMAN but i donīt know exactly what to do to solve this error.

Can anyone tell me the steps to increase archive destination size? Or can i delete the logfiles normally with rm? How can i prevent this error in the future?

    THX in advance
    Kind regards

    Code:
00257, 00000, "archiver error. Connect internal only, until freed."
// *Cause: The archiver process received an error while trying to archive
// a redo log. If the problem is not resolved soon, the database
// will stop executing transactions. The most likely cause of this
// message is the destination device is out of space to store the
    //	 redo log file.
// *Action: Check archiver trace file for a detailed description
// of the problem. Also verify that the
// device specified in the initialization parameter
// ARCHIVE_LOG_DEST is set up properly for archiving.
    Is DB V8 or V9?
If so, likely cause is DB is in ARCHIVE mode, but the ARCHIVER process has not been started

    >db_recovery_file_dest_size big integer 3882M
    which is about 3.8GB
so you are at the allowed limit
Either increase parameter or convince Oracle to remove files from this directory
