    Unanswered: Oracle Patching

    Hello,

I wondered if there is a policy to applying Oracle patches to your environment. Is it normally done as 'required'
basis or should you devise a strategy to apply patches every third month, or 6 times annually? Is there even
a best solution or is it mainly dependent/goverened on your infrastructure, availablity of downtime etc..
It would be useful to hear from others as to what you have implemented.

    Many thanks

Some subscribe to the position of, "if it is not broke, then do not fix it."
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.

The best solution is the one that works for you.

As anacedent says, why try fixing something if it isn't broken? But then again, you might take the view that you should make sure that you're protected against things possibly going wrong.

Personally I'm of the view that while it works why should I make more (unessential) work for myself?

At our shop we patch every quarter for both OS and Database. Always patch a test system and use it before patching production.
