Unanswered: Replacing DB2 Connect with DB2 Data Server client V9.5

In IBM Redbook "DB2 9 for z/OS: Distributed Functions" in section 2.3 I
read that we can replace DB2 Connect servers for connection to DB2 on
z/OS with DB2 Data Server Clients V9.5 fixpack 3 or newer one. I tried
to make this connection on my Data Server client to connect directly to
    host but I got message:
SQL8002N An attempt to connect to a host failed due to a missing DB2
    Connect product or invalid license.
I tried to add Connect license through License Center on my client but
    I don't know how.
Can someone tell me how can it be done and is this better solution then
    have installed DB2 Connect?

You are probably missing the license jar file db2jcc_license_cu.jar

I checked for db2jcc_license_cu.jar file and I found it in SQLLIB\java folder.
I also added db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar in same folder (I think DB2 uses this file for JDBC connection to z/OS)
but the result is the same error message.

I managed to add license for DB2 Connect not through License Center but using command:

    db2licm -a C:\Progs\SQLLIB\license\db2consv_zs.lic

and after that I can connect to DB2 on z/OS directly from my Data Server Client V9.5.
Has someone experience in replacing DB2 Connect with Data Server Client (or driver)? Is this better way to connect to z/OS than going through DB2 Connect?
