    Unanswered: How Do I Reclaim Used Space?

    Dear Support,

    Am using Oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003 R2.

    I use RMAN to take backup on target (i.e not to Catalog)

    My db_recovery_file_dest_size is 50GB.

    My disk space was getting full and I deleted all backup.

    I used "Delete obsolete" to delete all obsolete ( to Recovery Windows of 5 days)
    But I had some errors : RMAN-06207, RMAN-06208
    Upon Searching on the Web, I found that I could use "Delete Force Obsolete"

    I used this command and successfully deleted the backups.

    However, when I used this command :
    --------------------
    select name
    , floor(space_limit / 1024 / 1024) "Size MB"
    , ceil(space_used / 1024 / 1024) "Used MB"
    , floor(space_limit/1024/1024)-ceil(space_used /1024/1024) "Free Space MB"
    from v$recovery_file_dest
    order by name
    ----------------------------
    to check the space, 30G space is still used and only 20GB is freed.

    I do not currently have any RMAN backup on disk and couold therefore not understand why 30G space is still used.

    I would therefore be grateful if some one can direct me on how to reclain this space

    Kind Regards
    Fokwame

    Dear Support Mates,

    Am glad to inform you that my continuous search on the web yielded positively

    The issue is resolved and this was what I did:

    rman> crosscheck copy;

    rman> delete expired copy;

    Much thanks

    When you delete a file on WinDoze, the space is not de-allocated until you right-click on the re-cycle bin and click on "Empty re-cycle bin".
