    Login failed for user ''. Reason: Failed to open the database specified in the login properties. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

    sql server 2008 Error 18456, Severity 14, State 40.

    Any help is appreciated

    go look at what you did to attempt the connection. Pay specific attention to the username/password you used in the connection string.
    oh yeah... documentation... I have heard of that.

    actually it is showing in errorlogs(which happend only in early hours).i can't get brief description about it in errorlog.it is not related to any job

    Find out what machine has the IP address in the error message, then see if that machine has any sort of user activity or scheduled task at about the time the error is generated.
