Unanswered: Data deleted - how to tell when? (using .bak and .trn)

    Hi there,

We had an issue overnight when some of our data was deleted. Specific rows from specific tables.

We have backup files (.bak) from before and after, and Transaction Log Files (.trn)

How can I use these to tell when the data was deleted, and by who?

Unless you are aduting the table, there is no way to find out "who". As far as when, it's all going to depend on when you no longer find the data in the database during log restores. It'll be a best guess when, especially dependent of how frequently you back up the logs. If it's hourly, you can assume it occurred in the last hour. Nightly, then sometime that day.
