Unanswered: Why "xhost +" is needed for launching db2cc ?

    Hello everybody.

I have successfully installed the DB2 9.7 on ubuntu 10.10.
When I am trying to launch the control center(db2cc), I am getting the following error message on the terminal.

    No protocol specified

    Error: Can not open display

I have found that, I need to executer the command xhost + as the super user(system administrator) in order to resolve this error.

    I have executed it.
Then I was able to launch the db2cc successfully.

Now, my question is, why should we use xhost command for resolving this error ?

If the db2cc ist started from another user, then this user has no permissions for your GUI-Session.

Good question, wrong forum. This has nothing to do with db2. Look in unix/linux forums.

    But, okay:
log in as db2inst and type "startx". In this graphical session you will have no problems

    or

open a terminal in you own graphical session and type
    Code:
    ssh -X -Y db2inst1@localhost
type password when prompted. To see if it works you can type "xclock". When a clock appears, stop the clock and type "db2cc". Should work.
