Unanswered: Totally lost with SQL 2005

I have a backup from SQL server 2000. I recently installed the Developer edition on my box but am totally lost how to restore the SQL 2000 database backup.

The new interface might be rich but I am really confused (probably because I was so used to the SQL 2000 usage).

Which of the following should I use to restore the 2000 db backup:
    1. SQL Server Management Studio
    2. SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio
    3. Microsoft Visual Studio 2005

I am using SQL server after almost 4 years and will be needing the help and guidance of the experts here. Hope I can look forward to that.

    Thanks XX

SQL Server Management Studio is the replacement for for SQL Server Manager.
Restoring 2000 backups to 2005 is simple, from the SSMS interface.
If it's not practically useful, then it's practically useless.

Thanks for your help but I still can't get it to restore a sql 2000 database in 2005.

Here's what i have been trying to do:

    1. Started SQL Server Management Studio
    2. Right clicked on Database and then selected the Restore database option
    3. The resulting window pops up but I am unable to see the backup file. It's currently located in C:\TEMP.
    4. Should the SQL 2000 DB be located in some other folder?

As you can sense I am REALLY confused and am seriously thinking of reverting back to SQL 2000 (Which i really don;t want to do as I wish to learn SQL 2005)

In the 3rd step you have a window where:
    - you choose "from device"
    - click the ... button
    - in the new window click Add button
    - Locate your backup file

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Since I could not see the backup in the MSSM (MIcrosoft Server Management Studio) so I renamed the file's extension to .bak

Here's what happens what i try to follow your instructions in the 3rd step:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Restore failed for Server 'ZM-FZ140E'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

For help, click: Source: ID: ( ) - Events And Errors Message Center: Message Details

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Directory lookup for the file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\DataMart1_Data.MDF" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

For help, click: Source: ID: (SQL Server 9.00.1399.00) - Events And Errors Message Center: Message Details

Do I need to create a folder D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data and then place the backup over there.

Many advance thanks for your help XX
