    Unanswered: Oracle user connection failing

    Hi,
    My Oracle user which i created 5-6 months ago is not getting connected today when i tried to connect.

    But sys is getting connected.

    Also i queried dba_users in which my user was present.

    Also i did Alter user to change its password successfully., but it is not connecting

    What may be the reason sir?
    It is not giving any error.The cursor just blinks

    Is there something in oracle which can block a user from connecting?

    Regards,
    Ritesh

    It could be the database is in the process of shutting down, or is open in RESTRICTED mode.

    Type: select status from v$instance; to see what state it's in.
    90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.

    Hi,
    Code:
      SQL> SELECT STATUS FROM V$INSTANCE;

    STATUS
    ------------
    OPEN

    OK, so the database is open (although we might have guessed that from the successful SYS logins). So, is the database open in UPGRADE or RESTRICTED mode (which would allow SYS to log in but no other users)?:

    select logins from v$instance;
    90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.
