    Unanswered: TNSPING giving TNS-12538 error

I am using Oracle 10g and windows XP am able to ping my server but TNSPING is failing continuously.
Here is what message its giving:

    H:\>tnsping INCTT

TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 9.2.0.7.0 - Production on 14-DEC-20
    10 03:56:21

Copyright (c) 1997 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

    Used parameter files:
    C:\ORACLE\ORA102\network\admin\sqlnet.ora

Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = XXX.XXX.XXX)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = INCTT)))

    TNS-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter

Can any one please guide me how to resolve this error.

    You claim V10 & Oracle report V9.2
    Why the disagreement?
Is TNSPING issued from remote client or DB Server itself.
When did it last work & what has changed?
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.
