    Unanswered: how to restore backup to another database but keep orig name

    hello,
    db2 newbie here
    i have 2 database , prod and dev
    the dev database is corrupt and there is no backup available
    i want to take a backup from the prod database and either repair or create a new dev database
    what is the best way to do this?

    windows/v8.1

    It is called a redirected restore. You can also change the DB name during the restore. Look in the manual on the RESTORE command.

    thanks, i forgot to mention these are on different machines
    will the redirect still work?

    If you want the tablespace containers the same, then you do not have to do the redirect.

    do i just copy the backup image form the prod db to the dev machine
    then restore that image to my existing devdb (which is corrupt)?

    we just need our developers to be able to call the devdb and access the stored procedures without much reconfiguring

    If you want the tablespace containers exactly like the production, then yes, that is all you need to do.
