    Unanswered: tempDB.mdf grows unexpectedly

For the past couple of weeks we have been seeing the temDB.mdf grow unexpectedly; it grows for 2 GB to 25 or 30 GB; I would hate to run a profiler to see what is causing this growth; is there any other way I can find out what is going on?

    Thanks,

    Carlos

Well, it could be snapshot isolation level turned on, CDC, and even regular spilling into tempdb of regular queries that reached the threashold of performing the sort in memory.

This article deals with what is using tempdb at a point in time. I doubt you can find out what used a large section of tempdb in the distant past.
