Unanswered: Sync Outlook Contact > Access > Exchange

I have a few users who keep 5000+ contacts in their Microsoft Outlook. This has become a problem with regards to being able to query the Exchange server quickly for information. At times there is as much as a 30 to 60 second lag time between searching for a contact and that contact displaying. I was wondering if I could speed up the search by using access to sync with the exchange server instead of outlook. My thought process is that once access syncs completely the server Outlook could then query a local database on the same computer, which would be much faster than making a network request. Any changes made to Outlook would then be reflected on access. Access would then sync with Exchange as it is able. Is this doable? Will this work??
